WOW Specialists

CiLifecycle, in partnership with Veolia, have developed a secure and sustainable WOW trolley collection service that ensures safe transport, regulatory compliance, and environmentally responsible recycling.

Batteries in WOW trolleys present significant challenges for safe handling, transport and recycling. Once damaged or no longer functional, they become highly volatile and require expert management to prevent fire hazards. Without proper care, they pose serious risks to both the environment and human health.

In partnership with Veolia, CiLifecycle offers a secure and fully compliant disposal service that addresses these risks while ensuring sustainability and full regulatory compliance.

Specialist Logistics

Depending on the amount, even a small number of trollies must be transported by Dangerous Goods (DG) certified drivers, following strict loading limits and safety protocols.

Recycling Materials

WOW trolleys contain a mix of metals, volatile batteries and plastics. Each unit is carefully dismantled, with every waste stream processed separately to reduce environmental impact.

Hazardous Waste Classification

WOW trolleys are classified as hazardous waste under EWC code 16 02 13*, with lithium batteries falling under UN3481 for Dangerous Goods. These classifications dictate strict handling, transport and disposal requirements.

Safe battery handling

Our process includes compliant, secure handling of both LiFePO₄ and SLA batteries across every collection.

Specialist transport

Each unit is secured and transported by certified crews using fire-resistant containers and compliant logistics.

Regulatory compliance

All collections meet UK waste transport legislation, including EWC and UN codes for hazardous materials.

Advanced recycling

Our recycling process recovers valuable materials and ensures safe treatment of hazardous components.

Nationwide collection

We coordinate secure pickups from multiple sites, backed by clear documentation and traceability.

Real-world experience

We deliver measurable results across public and private sector clients with proven, scalable solutions.

Barts NHS, Trust Representative

At Bart Hospital, as with NHS trusts, there is a universal challenge for an ethical disposal of WOW trollies due to the nature of the hazardous batteries contained within. Finding a compliant Partner who fully understood the legal standpoint of Logistics, compliance and ethical solutions was challenging. However, with our partnership with Centerprise International and their experience within the industry, we were able to find an ethical and compliant solution for over 400 of the units, and we will continue to use this tailored solution to continue and resolve the entire expired estate.

Our experience of dealing with Centerprise throughout the project was seamless and efficient, which gave us the assurance that a professional team was on hand and all relevant documentation was delivered in a timely and concise manner.
